An 8 day tour exploring the Volta Region of Ghana. Visit beaches on the Volta River and the Atlantic Ocean, as well as traditional craft villages, markets, a monkey sanctuary, the Keta Lagoon, historic architecture and partake in a nocturnal marine turtle expedition. Daily Itinerary
Day 1
Accra Arrival
- Meet your arriving flight at Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
- Safe transport to your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle.
- Refresh and relax. Neighborhood or Accra city orientation as time permits.
- Overnight at a mid-range hotel in Tesano.

Day 2
Quick Accra Tour, Keta Beach & Lagoon
- Accra morning: Osu Castle, Black Star Gate, Kwame Nkrumah Memorial.
- Visit the former slave market at Atorkor, once Ghana's 2nd largest slave market.
- Rest of the day at the lagoon or beach side to relax and socialize with locals.
- Overnight at an upscale resort on a clean sandy beach.

Day 3
Keta Birding, Historic Fort, Lighthouse, Beach Relax, Turtle Expedition
- Early birding at Ghana's most important marine birding site, the Keta Lagoon.
- Visit the Danish Fort Pridzenstein and the Cape St. Paul lighthouse. Beach time!
- Nocturnal excursion to search for nesting marine turtles (Oct-Dec are the best).
- Overnight at an upscale resort on a clean sandy beach.
Day 4
Kente Village, Monkey Sanctuary
- Travel inland into the lush highlands of the less visited Volta Region.
- Tour the Kente weaving village of Kpetoe, home of Ewe-style Kente cloth.
- Visit the monkey sanctuary at Tafi Atome to frolic with habituated Mona monkeys.
- Overnight in a budget guesthouse in central Kpando.
Day 5
Pottery, Fishing Village, Wli Falls, Culture Performance
- Visit a famous Kpando pottery maker shop. Walking tour of Torkor fishing village.
- 45 minute hike through the Agumatsa Forest Reserve to Ghana's tallest falls.
- Put on your dancing shoes for a special evening culture performance.
- Overnight in a budget guesthouse in central Kpando.
Day 6
Spiritual Spaces, Volta River
- Visit a Christian grotto, the Blues of Ur meditation center and/or a traditional shrine.
- Depart south along the shores of Lake Volta to cross the Volta River at Atimpoku.
- Walk across Ghana's only steel arch bridge. Relax on the banks of the Volta River.
- Overnight at a luxury resort on the Volta River.
Day 7
Volta River Day
- Morning motorboat to the Akosombo Dam, holding Volta Lake, or a relaxing canoe ride with a local fisherman, or a full day Volta Lake cruise (Sat/Sun only).
- Walk around the busy fishing village socializing with locals. Enjoy your resort.
- Overnight at a luxury resort on the Volta River.
Day 8
Glass Beads, Craft Market, Family Compound, Traditional Blessing, Drop-off
- Relaxing on the Volta River as your schedule permits. Traditional glass bead making.
- Aburi craft market in the Akuapem highlands. Unplanned community in Accra.
- Visit a typical family compound home. Traditional blessing for safe journey.
- Safe delivery to airport 2 hours before your evening flight.
