Daily Itinerary

Day 1
Accra Arrival

  • Meet your arriving flight at Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
  • Safe transport to your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle.
  • Refresh and relax. Neighborhood or Accra city orientation as time permits.
  • Overnight at an high-rise hotel in Osu.

Day 2
Accra City Tour

  • Meet your guide at 8:30 AM and depart on guided tour of Accra.
  • Visit to Kwame Nkrumah Monument, Independence Square, Makola Market,  historic Jamestown, W.E.B. Du Bois Center, fashionable Oxford Street in Osu.
  • Overnight at an high-rise hotel in Osu.

Day 3
Bobiri Forest, Butterfly Sanctuary

  • Depart metropolitan Accra for a scenic drive through the countryside.
  • Late afternoon hike at the Bobiri forest reserve and butterfly sanctuary.
  • This is Africa's only butterfly sanctuary, which contains many native species of trees.
  • Overnight at a mid-range hotel in Ejisu.


Day 4
Ashanti Craft Villages, Monkey Sanctuary

  • Morning depart to visit craft villages around Kumasi showcasing traditional crafts:  Kente weaving at Adanwomase, Adinkra cloth at Ntonso, carvings at Ahwiaa.
  • Late afternoon fun with the monkeys at the Boabeng-Fiema monkey sanctuary.
  • Overnight at a budget hotel in central Techiman.


Day 5
Drive Day, Rooftop Homes, Historic Mosque

  • Long drive on ancient Islamic trade route. Visit a rooftop home at Senyon.
  • Late afternoon arrival in Wa, capital of the Upper West region.
  • Visit to a 15th century mosque and possibly visit the village chief at nearby Nakori.
  • Overnight at a mid-range hotel in Wa.


Day 6
Hippo Sanctuary, Lobi Tribe, Mole National Park

  • Early morning to the Wechiau Hippo sanctuary and canoe safari to the hippos.
  • Have a visit with the local Lobi tribe and socialize with friendly people.
  • Arrive at Mole National Park in time for the afternoon safari walk (15:30 to 17:30).
  • Overnight at a budget lodge in Mole National Park.


Day 7
Mole National Park, Mognori Cultural Village, Afternoon Safari Walk

  • Morning game viewing walk at Mole National Park (6:30 to 8:30).
  • Poolside at Mole Lodge after enjoying a performance at Mognori Cultural Village.
  • Afternoon safari drive to find elephants and other mammals at Mole National Park.
  • Overnight at a budget lodge in Mole National Park.


Day 8
Driving Safari, Ancient Mosque

  • Driving safari at Mole with a specially trained park ranger.
  • This is a 2-hour driving safari (as opposed to the morning and evening walks).
  • Visit the ancient Sudanese style mud-and-stick mosque at Larabanga.
  • Overnight at a budget lodge in Mole National Park.


Day 9
Mole National Park, Craft Market, Flight to Accra

  • Morning walking safari at Mole National Park. Watch out for the baboons!
  • Quickly depart for Tamale. Craft market in Tamale before your flight to Accra.
  • Be met at the domestic flight terminal upon your return to Accra.
  • Overnight at a mid-range hotel in Tesano.


Day 10
Posuban Shrine, Cape Coast Castle, Beach Relax

  • Mid-morning departure west along the coast to the city of Cape Coast.
  • Visit an elaborate Posuban shrine, commemorating an Asafo community group.
  • Tour the U.N. World Heritage Site and former slave dungeon of Cape Coast castle.
  • Overnight at a 3-star beach resort in Elmina.

Day 11
Kakum Birding (no canopy walkway), Crocodile Pond, Culture Performance

  • Hike with a birding expert through the 3 different ecosystems of the Sun Bird Trail  at Kakum National Park: rainforest, a secondary forest and pond environment.
  • Crocodile ponds and weaver bird community. Special evening cultural performance.
  • Overnight at a 3-star beach resort in Elmina.

Day 12
Accra Return, Last Minute Shopping, Traditional Blessing, Departure

  • Morning departure for Accra, visiting sites along the way as time permits.
  • Visit a craft market, or Trashy Bags, where recycled plastic is crafted into accessories.
  • Walking tour of the Kisseman urban ghetto. Traditional blessing for safe journey.
  • Safe delivery to airport 2 hours before your evening flight.
