Daily Itinerary

Day 1
Accra Arrival

  • Meet your arriving flight at Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
  • Safe transport to your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle.
  • Refresh and relax. Neighborhood or Accra city orientation as time permits.
  • Overnight at a mid-range hotel in Tesano.

Day 2
Accra City Tour

  • Meet your guide at 8:30 AM and depart on guided tour of Accra.
  • Visit to Kwame Nkrumah Monument, Independence Square, Makola Market,  historic Jamestown, W.E.B. Du Bois Center, fashionable Oxford Street in Osu.
  • Overnight at a mid-range hotel in Tesano.

Day 3
Aburi Gardens, Craft Market, Handmade Glass Beads, Highland Village

  • Depart for Aburi Botanical Gardens and Aburi craft market (bicycles for extra fee).
  • Stop at a bead workshop near the Volta River to learn about this beautiful handcraft.
  • Enjoy the ride to as you travel to the scenic mountain village of Amedzofe.
  • Overnight at a hillside budget guesthouse in Amedzofe.


Day 4
Mt. Gemi, Monkey Sanctuary, Wli Falls, Volta River

  • Morning hike in the cool mist to the summit of Mt. Gemi or a nearby waterfalls.
  • Depart for monkey sanctuary at Tafi Atome for fun with habituated Mona monkeys.
  • Further into the Volta Region for a 45 minute hike to Ghana's highest waterfalls.
  • Overnight at a budget chalet on the banks of the Volta River.


Day 5
Volta River Day

  • Relaxed day at the Volta River. Enjoy a tranquil morning ride in a dugout canoe  or, for an extra fee, motorboat from the Adomi bridge to the Akosombo dam.
  • Riverside waterpark, walk across the Adomi Bridge or visit a banana plantation.
  • Overnight at a budget chalet on the banks of the Volta River.


Day 6
Akaa Falls, Butterfly Sanctuary, Traditional Ashanti Shrine House

  • Scenic drive to Akaa Falls. 250 concrete steps to the bottom of the falls.
  • Hike at the Bobiri forest reserve and butterfly sanctuary (best from Mar to Jun).
  • Visit one of the last Ashanti traditional buildings, the Yaw Tano at Besease.
  • Overnight at a mid-range hotel in Ejisu.


Day 7
Ashanti Craft Villages, Healing Shrine, Cocoa Farm

  • Visit traditional craft villages around Kumasi showcasing Kente cloth weaving,  Adinkra cloth stamping and wood carving. Visit a healing shrine and a cocoa farm.
  • The Diaspora may have a traditional cleansing and naming ceremony (extra fee).
  • Overnight at a mid-range hotel in Ejisu.


Day 8
Slave Cemetery, Cape Coast Castle, Beach

  • Follow the slave trail to the coast, stopping at a former slave market and cemetery.
  • Tour the World Heritage site and former slave dungeon of Cape Coast castle.
  • Those of the Diaspora may have a "Door of Return" ceremony at the castle (extra fee).
  • Overnight at a 3-star beach resort in Elmina.


Day 9
Kakum National Park, Crocodiles, Central Elmina, Culture Performance

  • Morning visit to the rain forest canopy walkway at Kakum National Park.
  • Visit nearby crocodile ponds. Visit central Elmina to see the busy fishing lagoon  and take the grand walkway to hilltop Ft. San Jago. Special cultural performance.
  • Overnight at a 3-star beach resort in Elmina.


Day 10
Beach Morning, Ft. Amsterdam, Kokrobite Beach Village

  • Beach morning before departing east to Abandze beach below Ft. Amsterdam.
  • Continue to Kokrobite beach. Food, music, crafts, live music on weekends.
  • Arrive before dark to have a night of reflection by the beach.
  • Overnight at a 3 star beach resort in Kokrobite.


Day 11
Family Compound, Traditional Blessing, Drop-off

  • Enjoy the pool and beach before departing to Accra.
  • Spend some time socializing in an unplanned neighborhood to see our life.
  • Visit a typical family compound home. Traditional blessing for safe journey.
  • Safe delivery to airport 2 hours before your evening flight.
