Tour Volta Region & Togo

 

The Volta region is a lush, mostly highland area, east of Lake Volta, the largest man-made lake in the world. Ho is the region capital and Ewe is the predominate language of this area. There are coastal areas, rivers, gardens and waterfalls to count among the natural attractions of this area.

2-3 days

Stop at Aburi botanical gardens, the wildlife preserve at Shai Hills, or a traditional bead factory on your way to spend a weekend on the banks of the Volta River. The river is beautiful and the water safe for swimming. A music cruise awaits you on Volta Lake, or ride the river in a canoe with a local fisherman.
OR
Travel along the coast to visit resorts where you can see crocodiles and marine turtles or participate in water sports or deep-sea fishing. The bird watching sanctuary of Xavi is also in this area. This coastal area is much less visited than the Western Coast.

Add a trip to visit the cities of Ho and Hohoe while visiting mountains, waterfalls, a monkey sanctuary, or a Kente weaving village. For an excellent adventure, hike to the top of Mount Afadjato , the tallest peak in Ghana.
OR
Continue your travel along the coast into Togo. Stay in the Togolese capitol, Lome, and enjoy the beautiful beaches and French influenced food.

This gives you time to fully enjoy life in the Volta Region or Togo. You can complete both of the above tours, making a loop through the Volta Region. You also can choose to enjoy a home stay with a family in a small rural village.
